Frequently Asked Questions
Can you help me with my dog's behaviour issue?
Absolutely. Our team has worked with a wide range of behaviour issues and can support you and your pet through just about anything. Occasionally, we may recommend involving a professional in a related field (like a vet or veterinary behaviourist), but when it comes to behaviour modification – we’ve got you covered.
We collaborate closely as a team, so if your consultant doesn’t have an immediate answer, they’ll draw on our collective knowledge to find one. You won’t be bounced around between providers.

How does Confident Hounds approach behaviour modification?
Behaviour change is more than just training. Your journey includes history-taking, tailored planning, education, and hands-on skill-building for both you and your dog.
We break things down into achievable steps and work at a pace that’s both supportive and sustainable. We use positive reinforcement and fear-free, evidence-based methods. We never use pain, intimidation, or force. Training should be empowering, respectful, and effectivefor both pets and people.
Can Confident Hounds help with my dog's anxiety?
Yes. Anxiety is one of the most common concerns we work with, and we take a compassionate, science-backed approach to help dogs feel safer and more secure.
We start by identifying the root causes (e.g. separation, noises, handling, new environments), and then build a personalised plan that includes:
Management strategies to reduce triggers
Gradual desensitisation and counter-conditioning
Teaching new coping skills and confidence-building exercises
Coaching you to respond supportively in anxious moments
We work at your dog’s pace and teach you to read subtle body language cues so you can step in before things escalate. If needed, we can collaborate with your vet or a veterinary behaviourist for medication support.
Is there an extra fee for working with more than one pet?
No. Our pricing is based on session time, not the number of pets. If multiple animals (or people) need to be involved to solve the problem, we welcome that!
Do you work with bite cases?
Yes. Many clients come to us after a bite incident. If the case involves extreme aggression (e.g. serious injury, mauling, or fatality), we may recommend that you work with a veterinary behaviourist alongside our team.
Will it work?
Yes - when we work together. Behaviour change is a process. When clients are open to learning, committed to the training plan, and maintain regular communication, real progress happens. Success looks different for every dog and depends on factors like age, genetics, health, and life history. We’re here to support you through the journey, not just offer a one-off fix.
Do you offer in-home sessions?
Yes. We offer in-home consultations within inner Melbourne, though the majority of our sessions are virtual. If you’re outside our travel area, we provide comprehensive remote support.
Do you guarantee results?
No. Ethical professionals do not guarantee specific behavioural outcomes. Too many variables such as genetics, health conditions, or trauma history are outside of anyone’s control. What we do guarantee is our commitment, professionalism, and the use of the most up-to-date, science-based practices available.
Do you offer virtual consultations?
Yes! Many behaviour concerns can be effectively addressed online. Virtual sessions are ideal for clients outside our travel area, for dogs reactive to visitors, or simply for convenience. You’ll receive the same personalised support, detailed plans, and follow-up resources as you would in person.
What if I’ve already worked with a trainer and it didn’t help?
That’s not unusual. Many of our clients come to us after other approaches have fallen short. We focus on underlying emotional states, not just surface-level behaviour. We’ll review your previous experiences and create a tailored plan that better fits your dog’s unique needs and your household.
Can you work with my whole family?
Absolutely. Behaviour change works best when everyone is on the same page. We encourage all household members - including older children and caregivers - to be involved in sessions.
